Right...I've got an earlier version of AE v.6.5 Standard, which does not have the image stabilization. Since Creative Suite was introduced, stabilization was included. It does a nice job and is a huge time saver.
I've tried the manual stabilization as well. Frame by frame manual stabilization produces mediocre results; and, yes...I can relate. It can take days of effort.

I found adobe after effects is the best. i used lots of programs and lots of them suck for ufo stabilization. the worst is doing it by hand. i did one by hand and it took almost a week.
