I know you're probably thinking "How dare he touch such a creepy, classic piece of movie history!"

But awhile ago I read an interview done with Al Hedison (The Fly himself), and he said he was very disappointed with the spider web scene. He said that when he was acting that scene out, he was screaming for his life, yelling out in total fear.
When he saw the finished movie, he was a little peeved that they turned him into a chipmunk.
He thought it would have been a better idea to have the chipmunk voice when Price is looking into the web, then during Hedison's close ups, revert back to his real voice, screaming in terror.

Inspired by what he said, I took the "Help Me!" scene, and tried to deepen Hedison's voice when the camera is focused on him in the web.
It doesn't sound exactly like him, it almost sounds like an old man, which is almost fitting, since the fly itself has lived almost its full life span (evident by Hedison's bald head)

Anyway, take a look at how Hedison wanted the scene done.

But no matter what, I shall always remember being freaked out when I saw the scene when I was 7

"Help meeeeee! Please, help meeeee!"

  • nightmare!

  • @BrooklynChivalry Well, it didn't work.

  • I was also very young when I saw this on TV all alone. I hate spiders as it is, and that voice.. ohh man. I'd guess if he could make any sounds at that size they'd be so high we;d not even hear the.is , I still get a knot in my stomach , he looked so freaky and just plane

  • Loved it. Wish it was like this in the real movie.

  • I think David Hedison is right, it WOULD have been better WITHOUT the high pitch, it was totally unnecessary. Whomever made that decision may have felt the screams made the scene too disturbing (at the time) and settled for a more unrealistic non-human voice to lighten the tone just a tad.

  • Spider gobble him up?

  • Hahahaha!!!!!

  • Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

  • @HeadBangerAust Yea gotta agree with you on that, first time i ever saw this film back in 1986 it sent shivers down my spine, genuinely creepy, i remember going to see the re-make a a week later and the scene with the baboon inside out made me jump and a mate nearly scream..
