At least 52 people were killed and dozens wounded in two explosions that rocked the University of Aleppo in Syria's second largest city on Tuesday the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

State television said there had been one explosion at the university, which lies in the government-controlled area, describing it as a "terrorist attack".

Amateur video uploaded to the internet, said to have been filmed in Aleppo on Tuesday showed extensive damage to the interior of the university. Students can be seen walking through halls and rooms strewn with broken glass, desks and other equipment.

Another video, filmed outside, shows a large plume of black smoke rising from the university building.

Reuters cannot verify the content of these videos, which were obtained from a social media website.

Rebels have used car bombs and suicide attacks in fighting government forces and attacking government-controlled areas.

Fighting between rebels and government forces has reached a stalemate in Aleppo and left the city divided. Rebels say they control more than half the province.

State television footage showed at least one body lying on the street and several cars burning.

The second explosion reported by the Observatory, a British-based opposition monitoring group, may have been caused by a burning car, but there was no independent confirmation.

One of the university buildings was damaged. The state news agency said the explosion occurred on the first day of exams.

Moderate Muslims are people that just people following their religion right from their Koran. FSA also well allow elections when the fighting ends. If there was new now government in Syria, cities in most areas would be well modernised.

Moderate Muslims don't wear shaggy beards like the Taliban or Sheikh Adnan 3aroor. The FSA members do. FSA issued an alliance with al Nusra (al Qaida). Boys from Tunisia Libya and even Pakistan are coming to fight for the FSA. One Tunisian family was recently interviewed on al Jazeera saying their son began praying in a mosque all the time and then ran away. He posted jihadi messages online. He was arrested by Syrian police joining the FSA. The culture of Aleppo is not in common with the FSA.

FSA are moderate Muslims. Syrian is an Authoritarian country like NK, Iran and many other Arab Countries.

Allepo is one of the most liberal cosmopolitan cities in Syria, with a large middle and business class. Many of them want nothing to do with the religious fundamentalist FSA even if they are frustrated with Assad.

Not it was Assad's warplanes that did it. The FSA are Syrian. Aleppo University is in Assad area not FSA, so FSA didn't do it.

I read an interview with a rebel commander in Aleppo who said maybe 70% of 7alabi residents are against them. The people of Aleppo never invited the FSA or al Qaida. Many of them want them to leave.

Did you not realize that many of the "rebels" are now foreign jihadis who threaten the original protestors who started this? They're enforcing prayer and dress code and punishing people for not acting like it's Saudi Arabia in many areas. This bombing was done by jihadis.

No Assad did it because the majority of the people in Aleppo University were Anti-Assad supporters.
