You may be too blinkered to take this in, but Ahmadinejad hates ZIONISTS, not all Jews in general. Iran in fact has the largest Jewish community in a Muslim country. Jews are even guaranteed a voice in the Iranian parliament. Ahmadinejad works with them. And Iranian Jews are anti-Zionist because they see that it gives Jews a bad name. I agree with them.

I used to work in Iran and I speak Farsi. I've looked at the Ahmadinejad quote, and it does NOT say "wiped off the map." Furthermore, he was quoting the Ayatollah Khomeini in a speech that was make like 20+ years ago. SOMEONE wants a war and translated his speech wrong. On purpose. Who wants a war with Iran? Word has it there were underground helpers. Swedish soldiers along the Norwegian border helped Norwegians cross into Sweden, my great grandfather were one of them I'm told (dunno if it's true though). Wouldn't know about the second, I've never heard when we Swedes learned about the holocaust.

The US did have an enormous impact in WW2, and we're not afraid to remind people of it. But it's not that we're super-special at all. We're just willing to confront tyranny. I would rather die fighting for my right to live freely than to live under tyranny. I think that concept is poorly understood in Europe, where it's about survival under whatever circumstances. That's why we defeated Hitler, stood up to the Soviet Union, and are now with Iran. Europe could be the same if they choose to.

(1) If Sweden did not actively fight Hitler, was there any underground efforts to help the Allies or the Jews (such as secretly providing safe haven for the jews in WW2)? I've never heard of anything.

(2) There was ample knowledge of the holocaust starting in 1942. Certainly by the end of '43 people knew but would say and do nothing out of fear of Hitler.
