  • Outstanding testimony. ...it's amazing how well he presents the truth. So moving. I am also re-reading the Book Of Mormon.

  • I testify that the Book of Mormon is of divine origin and all mankind shall be judged by the testimony it gives. Its coming forth was in fact foretold in the Bible in Isaiah 29:11-12; by foretelling the conversation between Martin Harris & Professor Charles Anthon documented in [THE PEARL OF GREAT PRICE] Joseph Smith History 1:63-65.

  • Now this is the commandment: Repent, all ye ends of the earth, and come unto me and be baptized in my name, that ye may be sanctified by the reception of the Holy Ghost, that ye may stand spotless before me at the last day. Verily, verily, I say unto you, this is my gospel.

  • to stand before me, to be judged of their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil.

And it shall come to pass, that whoso repenteth and is baptized in my name shall be filled; and if he endureth to the end, behold, him will I hold guiltless before my Father at that day when I shall stand to judge the world. And he that endureth not unto the end, the same is he that is also hewn down and cast into the fire, from whence they can no more return, because of the justice of the Father.

I have a much better explanation. It came from the mouth of Jesus himself: Behold, I have given unto you my gospel, and this is the gospel which I have given unto you—that I came into the world to do the will of my Father, because my Father sent me.

And my Father sent me that I might be lifted up upon the cross; and after that I had been lifted up upon the cross, that I might draw all men unto me, that as I have been lifted up by men even so should men be lifted up by the Father,

There have been many things that have been found. But that alone does not change the hearts of man. The Bible has many of these things that you say is missing for the BoM yet.. that alone does not persuade 5 billion people on the earth that it is true. The statement is actually: I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.

Of course they were human. But the canonization of the scriptures didn't happen until about 325 AD. Almost 300 years later. Yes.. the letters were regarded highly but the writers, had they known that we would "canonize" these words.. would have be more weary as to what was being written and how. The copies were made not to preserve.. but to put it into the hands of many. But like today.. without the proper context.. letters can be misunderstood as to their meaning.

  • Yes Peter and Paul did have their differences, but they were human. But there's no doubt that the epistles of Paul, Peter, James and John carried authority like the already established OT. I know that these writings were officially canonized later, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the epistles were held as an authority by the early church and that they were considered canonical. That's why many copies of these writings were made very early on so they would be preserved.

They make the law tougher so that one was able to better keep the law. Example: It stated that you could only walk so many paces from your home on Sunday. I don't remember the exact number.. but for this example.. lets say it was 50. The law said 50. So the Jews would say that it was now 25. This way.. if they walked 26.. the were "technically" still within the law... because the true law said 50. They did this with so many of the Laws of Moses. This law was to teach them.

  • @canterdogs

Living the "Law" on the "outside" without living it on the "inside" is how they were living the "Law". He said that was the hypocrisy. The Law of Moses was never intended to be a saving law.. but was a preparatory law to what Jesus would teach. It was to show them that by the Law alone.. they were doomed.. because no one.. not one.. could actually live it 100%. No matter how one tried.. one would always fail. And the Jews would "change" the law and make it more stringent.

You are right.. the works themselves DO NOT save us. We could from this day forward and forever not commit one more sin.. and that would NOT save us. Without Christ there is no being "SAVED". But our works.. whether they be good or evil do have an effect on God. He would either be pleased.. or displeased with our "works". He certainly is not slapping us on the back saying "Good Job" when we are sinning. It is true that the Pharisees thought that. Christ explained the error.

  • @canterdogs

Righteous is "imputed" on us when we follow Christ for one reason. He was righteous. And if you do what he did.. follow his ways.. righteousness will be a by product. But Christ also realizes that we are human and by telling us to follow him.. he also knows that sometimes you have to "fake it" to make it. Sometime you have to force yourself to do something "Christ like" and in doing it.. you learn that you like it. The spirit rests with you and then you want more.
