The original Japanese version is overly polite, never swears and is basically the peacemaker of the group, plus he's never mean to anyone. He usually says "Maamaa" which means something like "Now now" or "Oh my". He actually has pretty much the same personality as his original VA (Akira Ishida) does. Hakkai's lines and personality in the dub of Saiyuki Reload/Gunlock are closer to the original version.

The only gripes I have? ...Sanzo only sounds angry (he has no depth to his emotions like Toshihiko Seki did. Though Lex Lang is even worse.), Illich Guardiola's voice NEVER fit Gojyo and Goku sounded too old. Plus their Homura talks like he has a potato in his mouth. Hakkai would be good if they hadn't changed his personality completely. ...Zenon was at least good.

In the Reload/Gunlock dub Gojyo was IMPRESSIVE. He sounded exactly like the original - well, not the voice. The attitude.

It bothers me that they changed Hakkai's personality in the dub. :/ In this version he swears and says lines like these. (And then there was that "Bring on the booze~!" line.)

I doubt Akira Ishida's original Hakkai would ever say anything like that. Or swear.
