@bpatrice49 I agree with you to an extent. When Peter met Wlad in 05, it showed that Wlad's chin/mental toughness is still weak. Though it also showed how raw samuel was at that time. The fight itself was an exciting one, with both men hurting the other one. Peter's layer of invincibility was gone that night. Where Wlad was able to prove to himself even with a weak chin he can dominate a weak heavyweight division under the watchful eye of the great emanuel steward.

@Punisher412 Peter was a good prospect. His career was destroyed by the Klitschko brothers who took away his momentum three times in exceptionally punishing fights. Peter was a mega tough looking destroyer before hw met Wladimir in 2005 and took a serious amount of punishment in that fight. Then he was on a winning streak at title level in 2008 and developing as a boxer when Vitali just humiliated him in Berlin, and then finally he was on the comeback trail until Wladimir crushed him in 2010

Is it possible that Tyson didn't fight Mercer by design (ducking)? Yes, Tyson's management could've wanted to avoid the granite-chinned Mercer who could also punch. But as for Morrison - his chin did not match his punch - and no one believed that Tyson or his people were scared of that fight. In fact, Morrison said he had a huge multi-million dollar guarantee on the table to fight Tyson until his HIV test came up positive. Only recently has Morrison accused Don King of rigging the results.

Anyway, Mercer got fights with Lennox Lewis and Holyfield and fought them both on basically an even level. Many people thought Mercer beat Lewis but Lewis got the decision - and other than getting knocked down as a result of a Holyfield bodyshot - Mercer basically fought Holyfield on an even level. The timing was never right for a Tyson fight - Mercer never brought a huge victory to the table. Why would Tyson fight him when Mercer was coming off losses? It didn't make economic sense.

@baaser900 Morrison had just gotten his ass KO'd by Mercer, then Tyson went to prison, so Tommy wasn't ready for Tyson at that time. Then when Tyson was released from prison and they were trying to make a Tyson fight - Tommy ended up testing positive for HIV. Mercer himself lost to Holmes, Tyson went to prison - and Mercer lost a shot at Bowe by losing to Jesse "The Boogeyman" Ferguson - trying to bribe Ferguson into taking a dive! You can't BRIBE the Boogeyman...are you kidding me???? lol

@BoxerLife5150 Friday Ahunanya is another lazy ass fighter just like Samuel Peter. If Peter was willing to train like he wanted to be great - he woulda been more than just a 2-second champion. Vitali Klitschko came out of like 4 years retirement with no tuneup fights or anything and went directly to Peter - made him quit and took his title like he was taking candy from a baby.

@comedicstuff I agree. Ike was on his way to heavyweight stardom when he was locked up and stopped fighting back in 99. With wins over both Tua and Bryd in 19 fights is pretty impressive imo. With Wlad's weak chin and lack of toughness when things get rough, would certainly bode well for Ike's chances of beating him. It's too bad noone will ever truly know wether or not Ike could of beat Lennox or the Klits. We can only speculate at this point.

Lennox Lewis might not be considered as highly as he is now and the Klitschko brothers might not even be relevant if Ike Ibeabuchi wasn't a nutcase.
-
@Punisher412 Actually, Ike Ibeabuchi had Tyson-like talent. Only Ibeabuchi was taller and boxed a more technical fight. Ike didn't have the hand speed Tyson had, but he had similar power and mentality. Ike was only improving when get was sent away. Ike was capable of beating the Klitschko brothers (especially Wladimir) and Lennox Lewis. Had Ibeabuchi not gotten himself locked up, heavyweight history would've been altered somewhat.

Samuel Peter was fuckin awesome the first few years of his career, but once he start losing, he just went to shit. I'm still pulling for him in 2 days against Friday "The Thirteenth" Ahunanya. Peter will win by KO.
I hear what your saying, but Peter is not that bad, if anything he's more exciting than Wlad, who clinches every few seconds and has an extremely weak chin, which helped to get floored 11 times and TKO'd by 2 journymen and a club fighter.
The Heavyweight division is a joke, but we wont ever see another fighter like Tyson, he's the kind of fighter that only comes around every 100 years, and with the Heavyweights getting worse now with time, I dont think we will see another Tyson like talent.
