Victor master B 1446-2, rec. New York, 8 June 1904.
John Bieling (t), Harry Macdonough (t), Samuel H. Dudley (b), William F. Hooley (bs) with Walter B. Rogers (bugle).
One of the most profilic quartets of the early years of sound recording with a fine version of this well-known Civil War song, written by Walter Kittredge in 1863.
Bieling and Dudley later became one half of Billy Murrays famous American Quartet.
This brought back some great old memories of my Dad and his buddies sitting by the fireplace, passing the bottle and harnonizing, my Dad was the Bass, Uncle Horsecake was the baritone, Uncle John (New York) usually sang the lead and Uncle Ernie was the tenor. Mama usually chimed in on the gospel songs. "Gee, but I'd give to world to see, that old gang of mine."
