There's a reason why two people enter/graduate the same city public high school, but one goes to NYU and the other is a bus driver. One used high school to the fullest of its potential (building contacts willing to recommend them, developing themselves w/ extra currics, getting a 4.0+gpa).
Personally, I think high school is a waste of time in CONTENT, but it demonstrates how well a person is able to navigate 'hoops' and tasks. Which is pretty much what life is.
