If you think that this is a christian song, then you obviously know neither the lyrics nor the artist...
"Born of your bellies I yearn for the cord
Years I have groveled repentance ignored"
"I am son who was raised by such men
I'm often reminded of the fools I'm among"
"I am a man who understands your reticence
I am a man who still does what he can
to dispel our archaic reputation"
It is very clearly about all men being accused of sexism, when not all are guilty. Also, Alanis is buddhist.

I particularly don't like alanis morisette but bought a bass guitar to learn how to play that last 50 seconds. Damn this song I have to come back to this song every now and then...

@lucy1107sister While everyone is completely entitled to their opinions, they also must be backed up by facts to be taken more seriously. So, how is the crucifixion of Christ in anyway related to this song? I feel like if you listen to the lyrics, it is a pretty self explanatory song. Why must religion especially Christianity constantly brought into everything? Most especially considered the artist herself is no where near being a Christian?

It sounds as though she trying to speak from the perspective of a man blamed and accused by women who see men from the perspective of the one who was hurtful and mean. The man is explaining please "don't put me in that category because I am a man. just because one apple spoiled the bunch. I have not been perfect but repented for all hurtful things I have done so don't keep punnishing me for your endless anger towards men from your hurt. I am not one of them and just want to be in peace with you"

This is referring to "man" as in being a human. As in, we are man and woman. We are responsible for all the sins from the time of our birth thru the time of our death. And, this also is about the crusifiction of Christ and that he was born to forgive "mans" sins and so we could be forgiven.

great lyrics ,,,love alanis
