Off the hump or off the wheelhead ?

I was trained up more to throw off the wheelhead , but some things I throw off the hump like certain handles, lids etc . I think both work ,just depends how you were taught.

I for myself would like to go to Japan & learn more about off the hump throwing...

Hi Clara, you see colours and digits because people have clicked on "thumbs up" to rate it as a "good comment" or "thumbs down" to rate as a "poor comment"

And so a comment can have a (green) positive number if people like it or (red) negative if people do not like it.

Before I forget, I compress the bottom of mugs and smaller bowls yet I still manage to have a slightly raised portion in the middle of the bottoms. This doesn't happen with wider pieces that I can get a rib into for compression. How can I ensure the same with smaller pieces? Is there a rib small enough or made in such a way to compress well in small/narrow work? My fingers just do not seem to compress well enough. - Oh, the handles for the mugs remained tight as of Tues' class. Teach was pleased

Gracias... (Boy I can tell my Spanish is weak. Fortunately DH's crews know enough broken English & I know enough broken Spanish that we can communicate when they call for esposa) I threw pieces like this with the cappuccino cups the other week. You're right, it's great practice but for some reason I had all but one at the same size; is this uncommon? BTW, Simon, I cannot imagine you being an apprentice. :) You've probably forgotten more about pottery than most of us will learn in a lifetime.

Here is a second question, for the person who whishes give me an answer: why can I see -from time to time- some digit, in colour, more than 0, on the left of two other figures(on the right of "reply/spam". It is difficult for me to understand all the possibilities ... Thank you for your answer! (in a very simple English please!)
