Folk Singer Drew Calvin performs his song "One Percenter", which sarcastically lampoons the wealthiest 1% of the US population responsible for the economic disaster and deep recession that the hard hit 99% are left to sort out. The song is deeply reminiscent of the rallying songs of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. Recording and video by Jamey Reilly at VirtuaLux Studio, Philadelphia.
In the true folk tradition, Drew repurposes a well-known tune to support his topical lyrics. By creating a seemingly sympathetic song about the "problems" of the rich 1%, he forces us to look at the REAL problems of those of us in the 99%. This adds power to our cause and is an important compliment to music that directly addresses the 99%.

This song is great on so many levels -- as a depiction of the casual arrogance of "One Percenters", as a musical link to Woody Guthrie, as a link between the last Great Depression and this one . . . We need more songs like this one. Everybody needs to listen to this.
