I've used window cleaner for years to clean the visor. Never had a problem with the plastic deteriorating. And why not dry the helmet in full sun? It's out in the sun for hours when you ride.

very dumb question... but whats a good neutral cleaning agent??? my helmet needs a major cleaning... thanks for the help!

It's good to have a clean helmet, nothing worse than a muddy or dirty helmet...
