@blazednlovinit well in that case i'm guessing they go on the amount of debris flying away from the epicentre and what the debris is made of and the speed of the debris, i dunno, i obviously didnt listen to the video and ur question well enough. but i know they can deduce so much from so little as far as extra solar bodies and events go, so it hardly surprises me

@EqualAndFree they calculate it from the effects the planets have on a parent star. they can deduce many planets sizes, and positions of orbit just from the gravitational tugs they have, they can also calculate from magnitude changes in the star if the star systems orbits are side on from our view

then again, i wonder if we could have gotten as far as we have without the leaders enslaving the masses with religion, i mean the dark ages were a real holdup, and possibly the only thing keeping society from falling apart was threat of hellfire....then again it was also responsible for multiple wars, but i really think those would have happened anyways, religion is just an easy scapegoat for leaders that want to fight.
