  • Once again Val, lovely piece. I just learned this tune on the guitar with less variations of course, but the melody is so beautiful. Great job.

  • @Aic1944

Thanks. Not really variations here, just some ornements.

    V.

  • OK dude, you're inspiring. I play guitar, and as soon as I've mastered that I'm lute Scottish lute next. I'm serious. This is insanity. Why isn't this just as popular to play as everything else? Thank you so much for posting all of these videos.

  • @Luthval Thank you very much! I'm not really intending on playing lute "seriously" until I master finger picking, which seems to be an essential skill for authentic Renaissance-style playing. I've been practicing finger-picking on my guitar and hope eventually to move up to something more complex, like a lute. Thank you very much, you've been an excellent help! Love your playing by the way, big fan.

You have cheap renaissance "EMS " lutes on internet, not so good, but you can start with (around 400...) for a good student lute, it is from 1500-2000 (In the US, look for Gamut lutes, in England look for James Marraige, IN France, look for Didier Jarny or Nicolas Petit, in Belgium look for Renzo Salvador)...

  • @Luthval Well in that case, what is the average price for a "beginner's" Renaissance/Baroque lute if there is such a thing? The cheapest lute I've seen was a little over a thousand dollars, and that was just a DECORATIVE one. Which I really don't see the purpose of a decorative instrument, except maybe posing for paintings and such... I would save up the pennies for such a beautiful instrument, but if there's an instrument that's still in the hundreds of dollars range I'd like to know.

  • @GasSnake2003 Turkish and oriental lutes are different than renaissance or baroque lutes, so if you want to play oriental music a turkish lute is ok, for renaissance music you need a renaissance lute (and it is more expensive than 80$...)

    Good luck !

  • @Luthval I've found a Turkish kind of lute on eBay for about $80. Is this a good price for a lute of reasonable quality? It would seem so, considering my Fender Starcaster was about the same price and plays excellently. Although I imagine lutes are built by different standards than electric guitars...

  • @EuropeanNinja

    Hello,

To find a lute and infos about, look on a search bot for "lute society" and folow the links ;-) (look also for Wayne Cripps website, many useful infos, and listing for used instruments for sale.

If you want to start with a cheap oone, try EMS lute (not very good so you'll have to change for a better one soon...)

Good luck (and ask, if any question, in MP)

    Val
