From Tina's Superb selftitled debut album 1995
With 6 Michael J. Powell Productions
Albumreview by Alex Henderson
Many of the urban contemporary singers who made their recording debuts in 1995 went out of their way to be as hip-hop as possible, but not Tina Moore. Instead of emulating Mary J. Blige or the members of TLC and En Vogue, Tina Moore favors more of an "Anita Baker meets Whitney Houston" approach on this self-titled debut album. Six of the ten tracks were produced by Michael J. Powell (who is known for his work with Baker), including the melancholy single "Color Me Blue." Definitely a gem, "Color Me Blue" is the best thing on the CD, although her remake of Harry Warren's "At Last" runs a close second. Unfortunately, Moore didn't have another label to go to when her relationship with Scotti Bros. ended, and six years later, she had yet to provide another full-length album.

This CD should have gone multi platinum. Tina Moore's vocals are an a level that's comparable to Whitney, Mariah, Toni, Anita. Scotti Bros was the wrong label to sign with. I'm sure Clive Davis would've taken her.

The Beastie Boys should've also picked her up because it would be perfet for they label EMI because Mariah's was with Sony, Toni's and Whitney's were with BMG, Janet Jackson was with Universal and Madonna was with Warner.
With Moore on broad, the Big Five label at the time should've all pop divas superstars.
Does everybody think of this?

True, back in the day, about a year after the CD's release, I was insisting that everyone check out this new artist who had received death threats (kidding) from Whitney, Mariah, and Toni. In my opinion she's those 3 rolled into one. Poor label, poor contract, poor promotion. I think her label and manager(s) were living off the proceeds. Somewhere I heard or read that, despite the failure, she would never leave her current crew. She deserves so much more and we deserve so much more from her.
