Author and activist Bill McKibben addressed the crowd assembled in Washington Square Park for a special session of the Occupy Wall Street general assembly. This was during the post-GA portion of the rally. As for why the crowd keeps repeating what McKibben is saying, for those that don't know, the police have prohibited all forms of sound amplification. The demonstrators have taken to using what they call the "human microphone"—speakers address the crowd in short phrases which are then repeated across the crowd as many times as is necessary for all in attendance to hear what's being said. The pipeline he refers to, right at the beginning, is the proposed Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, currently in the final review phase by the State Department.

That guy on the right looks intense, like if the NYPD tried to pepperspray him he'd catch it all in his mouth and spit it back at them.

Yes, I couldn't agree more. The real problem isn't Obama so much as the types of people who voted for Obama. I can just about guarantee that the types of people who see eye to eye with a nutcase like McKibben are the very types of people who pressed the D-button back in November. They aren't just fools but they are dangerous fools. I wonder how many of these people drove over to this event in an auto that was powered by fossil fuels. It's scary that there are people like these voting.

Come to think of it I'm not really surprised. I've seen this coming for quite some time. The people voting are getting dumber & dumber. I don't think any of them stop to think about the role fossil fuels play in their lives. They don't realize that they use fossil fuels when they drive their cars, heat their homes or even cook their food. Their lives would be very short and miserable without fossil fuels. Even their blessed smart phones wouldn't be possible without fossil fuels.
