Herbaceous Peonies will live for decades, even generations, so it makes sense to give your bareroot plant a good start. Spend a few minutes with nursery manager Barb Pierson as she explains how to plant the large, dormant, field-grown Peonies we ship in the fall. She covers the essentials, from selecting a site with at least 6 hours of sun per day, breaking up the soil, incorporating compost and adding lime if needed, to properly placing the roots and growing tips in the planting hole. It may take 2-3 years for your plant to reach the top of its form and bloom heavily, but your patience will be rewarded many times over.
