When I finished watching Hitchcock's Rebecca (1940), I felt I just HAD TO make a video about the fascinating character of Mrs Danvers. She struck me as a complex character -- among other things, her entire devotion to the late Rebecca and how she persuades the main character (played by Joan Fontaine) to attempt suicide...
In my opinion, Judith Anderson should have won the Oscar for best supporting actress (she was "only" nominated) because her performance as Mrs Danvers is simply stunning !
Music: "Dark March" and "Hold the Line -- Fire at Will" by James Dooley.

Mrs Danvers est une incomprise: c'est une héroïne passionnée... un modèle pour nous tous ;-)
Très beau montage, merci Clémentine.

Yes, as much as I love this all, it is pretty homophobic. Friedkin's Cruising is even more so, but I like it as well. Daphne Du Maurier later discussed her bi-/lesbian orientation later in life, I believe.

"Rebecca's only sin was being sexually promiscuous" Actually, that's not how I remember it. She was secretly sick with terminal cancer, and therefore suicidal. She deliberately taunted and provoked Maxim to kill her in order to kill two birds with one stone, accomplish her own suicide (indirectly) and at the same time implicate her husband. NOT a nice, innocent person. And wasn't she Danvers' daughter as well? The fruit does not fall far from the tree.
