Experimenting with the Sea to Summit Folding Cup and Pinnacle Soloist with the Trangia cookset for baking without an oven. This would be a great option for baking while camping, backpacking, bike touring, rving and van dwelling. This video focuses on using this simple set up on the trail and camping to bake Betty Crocker Blueberry Muffin Mix with little fuss or mess. Yum!
This is a 3 Part Video and my first time video taping a gear test and tutorial so I'm interested in receiving uplifting comments and questions:-) I look forward to filming more tests in a No Mess Trail Cooking Series.
This was filmed with a Canon Powershot S5 with articulating viewfinder using a Gorilla Pod.
Thanks for watching!! I appreciate your time and attention in viewing this exploration in alternative baking. Warmly, Laurie
If you can seal down a lid on your pot, you have a little pressure cooker. This is more economical in fuel usage due to heat conservation and higher steam temperature. How much pressure you can maintain sets the cooking temperature, strongly advisable for high altitude cooking. Less water needs to be used in the pot and only a low flame to maintain pressure or put the pot into insulation such as a wooly hat, then into your bar bag or coat pocket.

Wow! Thank you for the reminder. I had heard that but had forgotten and sooo important since I often use a bleach rinse to keep everything sanitary on the trail.

@LoveRise Our pots are the newer soloist. They have the Dupont Teflon Radiance.
Don't ever wash anodized pots with bleach water. I learned the hard way. I ripped the anodizing off of my GSI halulite kettle. Had to replace it...hehe. Good thing it was only $20 Just thought I'd share that :o)

Good info. Now I have had some pots like the esbit cookset that needed washing like what you are describing. Yet, I thought the Pinnacle soloist is anodized and not teflon? This is an area I have not researched so I'm curious if anodization is different than coating a pan with something like teflon?

@LoveRise There might not be an issue with the silicone. I didn't realize it was approved for 500f :o) I didn't do a vid on the muffin making. There are a few out there though. minibulldesign has some vids on it. I wasn't trying to mis inform you...sorry :o) There is apparently some issues with Dupont Teflon. I know with my pots, I had to boilwater several times and wash them out several times to get the teflon smell and taste out.

Personally my feelings about things like BPA and the leeching from freezer bags is that moderation is key and that with the little exposure people will have during their use while camping most people would not be ultimately effected if used now and then:-) Yet, those are just my personal feelings and I respect those who might feel differently.
I really do appreciate the feedback and your time and attention in watching the entire series!
Warmly,
Laurie

I would find your video interesting. Perhaps you will post it or email it to me. I wasn't aware that there were issues with silicone since it doesn't contain anything like BPA and is approved to be heated up to temps of 500 degrees in the oven. I would be interested in knowing if there is an issue. I've researched other videos that have used the silicone baking cups, silly feet and the squishy bowl for steam baking and nothing has been mentioned. So I'm curious.

The siicone on the handle will take a lot of heat. I actually made muffins as well, with my World Famous 600 pot and a 16 oz ziplock container. Never posted it because I don't like the idea of using produce bags. It was more of an experiment to say I did it...hehe! I like your method although we're still talking silicone being boiled and something bad transferring to the muffin.
