  • Whether one loves or hates a particular voice is so purely personal that there are no rational explanations for it! I personally can't stand the sounds Callas made, regardless of her great interpretations, to which I listen with actual pain, just to get what other qualities she had in such abundance. This voice, tho' is a favorite [among many!], & I'm always ready to hear more Donizetti!! The sound is poor, but the magic of her limpid voice comes thru!! t

  • Well, having read the reviews of the performance… I fail to understand what the ‘critical furore’ was about. The voice has changed since its earlier more lyrical condition and been replaced by a more metallic and steely edge… the pianissimos are second to none and the legato line is incomparable. It is fair to suggest that this Bolena is equal to many other performed by the greatest of singers in past and present times. There appears to be some strange clips/bumps in the recording…

  • I have not been a big admirer of the Callas voice as well though I I do recognize her great contribution to opera. Following in the 'bel canto' repertoire, Sutherland, Caballé, Gencer, Sills, Deutekom, Devia just to mention a few ....... all had much more ravishing voices that truly made me have ecstasies beyond my wildest dreams. Sutherland and Sills are the two that really did it for me!
