The CLASSIC ENGLISH COMIC ART STYLE (think Commando Comics, Action comics, boys own annuals and all those British war annuals ).These harsh NASTY realistic gritty war comics affected practically every British Sequential Artist and writers to come out of the UK . There was a brutal realism, a lack of censorship unlike the American comic versions of the same themes of war. People died, bled, were traumatized. Not all endings were happy.Some of the good guys were as ugly as the bad guys.Morality wasn't black and white. It was all very politically incorrect. This was the stuff British kids were reading! So it's no wonder when they grew up to be comic pros they'd have a very different view of the world. This was a major dividing line between comics Britannia and other countries.As said before this affected the writing of British comic writers as well as the artists.The writer Garth Ennis being a good modern day example. His run on Marvel's The Punisher is basically a British war comic with jokes.
As a BONUS he also discusses the artistic choices a comic artist HAS to make.The main one being weather to represent reality as it is or "bend it" in the art as he says and why he does this.But more importantly, exactly why it's effective.
David Lloyd is a Comic Artist and is co creator of V for Vendetta with Alan Moore discusses Heri Mkocha favorite picture of his , at Hampstead's New end gallery exhibition in London.
It ends with the pub!.. :-)

@theogore
thats alright. The original interview was 4 hours long. So much left out.
Especially him talking about the wierd business side of comics compared to other industries. As for the video above, people constantly ask why Brit artist/writers have a very different worldview.Well if you saw the stuff we all grew up on,...you'd understand! The Brutal British war comics sensibilty seeps through
most UK writer or artists.
