On a sunny but windy Wednesday afternoon 26th September 2007, the "Irish Seal Sanctuary .IE" volunteers and education officer welcomed Scoil Eoin National School from Kilbarrack and the Castaheaney Educate Together School from Clonee in Dublin
to the seal release of the 'Dude' on Bull Island. A young adult male harbour seal that was found a few weeks ago on Bull Island was finally healthy and fit to be returned.
Some members of the public also attended the seal release. We undertook the journey to the tip of Bull Island and when we thought our legs wouldn't bring us any further, we reached the point where the 'Dude' was begining his path to freedom.
The students, teachers and assistants formed a human chain encircling the container where Dude was resting.

Students from Castaheaney School and Scoil Eoin assisted the volunteers in getting the Dude from his container and he emerged waddling towards the open sea.
The students were in awe and delighted to see this wild animal going back to where he belongs. The students shouted "Bye Dude" as he slipped into the sea, to re-emerge a few minutes later to give them a second look.
Everyone enjoyed their first seal release but it was time to head back to the interpreative centre at Bull Island for the journey home.
The Irish Seal Sanctuary would like to thank Scoil Eoin NS, Kilbarrack and Castaheaney School, Clonee for their help and participation in making this a wonderful release.
A special thanks also to all the volunteers for all there efforts in making this day happen.
