Solitons are a kind of fundamental wave form, they are very stable and can pass through other waves unaffected. they were first noted when they were seen on canals, some waves travelled along the water for extremely long distances, miles even before they eventually lost their structure and broke up.. Electrons are thought to be solitons, they are useful in communication in things like fibre optics. I am no expert on these things though.

I do not think it was really a soliton ... it has to travel over very long distances and passing through other waves
