  • Alex: It makes the heart a flutter and comes in an instant. Men and women become weak from it. Kingdoms have been brought down by it and Tina Turner sang of it

    Watson: What is Heart Disease?

    Alex: Wrong

    Ken: What is Love?

    Alex: Correct

Watson: Love is an illogical human emotion which hinders the progress of man, in essence making humans illogical. Humanity is an imperfect species which must be remedied in order to obtain perfection...by any means necessary

    Alex: O.O

    Brad: O.O

    Ken: O.O

  • @AndrewDeLong That's actually not true, it uses information about past experience and uses it for future questions. Do you think you built this thing or something? Watch IBM's video.

  • @ZacharyBarreca "Acquire: "to gain through experience." It's gaining information about success through experience"

Again, wrong. The machine is not taking past experience & applying it towards future inquires of the same type. Each question is new, thus each past experience gives it no baring or hold over future questions. Again, it is doing a pre-programed task. It is taking in keywords, matching them up (albeit, complexly) with already stored data, & generating the best matches. Simple.

  • @AndrewDeLong Taking in statistics based on success or failure of an answer and applying them to information in its databanks is 'acquiring' knowledge. Acquire: "to gain through experience." It's gaining information about success through experience. And it's not matching 'keywords' its not your simple run of the mill search engine. If you watch IBM's video, maybe you'll understand. I've given you definitions of words, and ran the facts against them. You can't just decide what AI means.

  • @ZacharyBarreca

Actually, no. It is not "acquiring" anything beyond what it already has in it's data banks. Any added data is input by external sources, and is not gathered by Watson itself.

As for the "application:" It is a simple process of matching keywords (as spoken) to the data it already has. This is a programed feature, nothing more.

The computer itself is not freely thinking or going beyond it's set measure. Sorry, but it's nit AI. Not yet.

  • @AndrewDeLong

Artificial Intelligence is when a computer or machine performs actions thought to require intelligence.

Intelligence is the capacity to acquire and apply knowledge.

It can acquire knowledge from the statistics it takes based on how well an answer works, and the ridiculous amount of information contained in its "brain." And answering questions is application of knowledge... So...

    Game, Set, Match.

  • @ZacharyBarreca Really? Explain how.
