@AidanLunn By definition I guess they can be, but for the most part, empires have not given suffrage to territories they have aquired, and thats not republican

Of course, on Christmas Day 1991 there were actually regional variations in peaktime - Central and a number of other regions showed the premiere of Crocodile Dundee II from 8-10, and Minder at 10.15, as here, but Thames and some others, including Yorkshire, showed Minder from 8-9 and rather than the premiering film, took a rerun of Top Gun either side of the news. Presumably a demoralised Thames, no longer at the network's top table, were annoyed at the late scheduling of Minder.

@RedOctober1922 Definition of empire: "A political unit having an extensive territory or comprising a number of territories or nations and ruled by a single supreme authority". Nothing to do with a royal family at all, so I don't see how an empire can't be both a republic and an empire.
