this is an allegorical attempt by Kafka to define both his condition as a writer in the 20th century [i.e. doctor] as well as the 20th century itself. Samuel Beckett is his heir.
This allegory by Kafka is particularly multi-layered and complex. Most people won't get it. I'd explain but this character count is really agonizing.
