I whipped up this video while taking breaks from working on my website. At the same time I was trying to understand the untimely death of vocalist Brad Delp. The music is from Boston's instrumental "The Journey" from the album "Don't Look Back." The video clips are from concert footage between 1976 and 1979.
While I was viewing the raw footage, one thing was clear. All five band members truly loved what they were doing on stage, as if they were celebrating rock while playing.
Tom Scholz was relentless in finding what ever he could (or make himself) to get that feeling across - even down to using a tambourine. When was the last time you saw a rock band use a tambourine??!! That's Boston for you.
Even though Tom Scholz had the reputation of being a perfectionist, you must admit that he put out one hell of a product. Thanks' Tom!
Boston is still playing today and still respected, but the band will not be able to, nor should they be expected to capture that "celebration" again.
Classic Rock in the 1970's -- a very special time.
