My first every attempt on using a PIC on a toy. I gutted it, save for the battery terminals, put in the electronics without using any PCB and just used wire-wrapping wires to link everything together. There was a risk of it shorting all but in the end, it was OK. Not only that, it was also the first time I used no resistors since everything was running on low power.

  • Well, thanks for the tip but it never did occur to me for mass production. Also, I am not an expert in casting either. This was just a wild experiment to see if I could just solder wires into the chip without it shorting.

  • Dear trekpropguy,

Sorry I deleted your comments as I was trying to delete mine. Yeah, thanks as this was my very first non-existing prop were I experimented on the PIC chips and using only 3.0 volts before trying it out on the Playmated Tricorder.

Man, those were the years. Anyhoo, I hope to have something done by next year for Playmates.

  • Nice....That would make a keen Hypospray prop, maybe have a port on the back to accept a small simulated medicine vial. Have you thought about reproducing the case since it is so hard to find now? There are many ways you could cast it so that you could create many copies of the case for future purchasers.
