she's a contralto.

@skinnyandfatcat and her live vocal range is 3 octaves, 5 notes and one semitone range, you clearly havn't watched not even half of her live, to say "she can't even produce half of these notes outside of the studio" how much ignorance.

The C#7 was synth. Just saying.

@riyancarey and why not? this is from BEFORE SHE WAS FAMOUS , and KATY PERRY HAD 7 YEARS OF SONG CLASSES, SHE WAS A GOSPEL SINGER, AND THAT G#6 Is actually from her gospel algum, and she was able to do it, she must have misused her voice, and she can't do it anymore, I'm sure with some training she can do it, I don't understand why people need to imply so much on her, the C#7 was flat, and coud be a prolonged scream! no need to do such drama.

C#7 . seriously ?? Get real...

@skinnyandfatcat (watch?v=nDALuiLM0oY)(watch?v=
NJW140xdLtE)(watch?v=F2nKomXc4 48) she can't stay in tune? and I'm going t upload her full vocal range, cause you don't know what you're talking about. -
@lucaschermontsantos Ignorance? Katy Perry in the means of technical singing is not a "singer" the audacity of this video to claim that can she hit a C#7 is ridiculous because that would put her on par with the likes of Mariah. I've seen enough of her performances to assure to you that outside of the studio and without the pre-recorded vocals not only does she not have a 3 octave range but she can barely stay in tune. I believe we're in a pot and kettle stalemate when it comes to "ignorance"

For a serious musical analysis, deeper knowledge is needed. Just a analyze the live singer accompanying the scales on a piano outside of studio records.
I can sure to you, unfortunately for you, Kate Perry does not issue these notes live. Wake up!

She's not a contralto. This type of voice is not common, many women named "contraltos" are wrong, in fact they're mezzosopranos. Katy has not the color of voice of a contralto.

@leleco520 BROKEN

@skinnyandfatcat she already belted c#7 live, and she was able to whistle when she was a gospel singer, and one the whistle showed here, is from her gospel album!!
What's your argument for her being a mezzo-soprano? Just curious really, she doesn't sound that contralto to me at all.

@antonio610Because her voice is so clear and although she doesn't have a wide range is chest voice, her timbre isn't an alto's voice
