The way the Tridentine mass was celebrated in the RC church prior to Vatican II was often hookey (and sloppy). Now that it's been resurrected (sorry, I just couldn't resist) and is in competition with the Novo Ordus mass, it's being celebrated far more carefully. Keep in mind however that it was Anglo-Catholics who kept Tridentine ritual alive and well for the past 40+ years until Benedict XVI's Motu Proprio -- Summorum Pontificum.

@ajlda3 I would have preferred it if you hadn't come across my comment. I am now ashamed of it. Like so many of the reckless sins that I commit in my human weakness, this one came back to haunt me. My comment was unkind and certainly not Christlike. I am sorry for my insensitiveness. I have just come from a time of prayer about this matter and I asked our Heavenly Father to forgive me and I ask you to please forgive me also. I will continue to pray for healing for your Arthritis. Jude 24!

I've entertained by all the snark! Where does this come from? Let the faithful worship as they please. How dull it'd be if we were all one abstraction. The last time I walked through a field I didn't say, 'get ride of the Chickory and Queen Ann Lace. I took joy at all that followed the Sun. If we used our real names in our handles we'd not say such mean spirited statements. Use your own Christened name! I bet we all be peace makers. David Bell,LA

@frbjoern Just come across your comment, I object strongly to your comment, out of shot you would have seen me genuflect on entry, however, if I were to genuflect every time I passed the tabernacle my arthritis would probably be a lot worse now!!!! The late Father Pugh, Hon. Assistant at S. Johns' many years ago, once told me that to genuflect once on entry was sufficient, except during the consecration!! You sound as if you are someone trying to have a personal dig at me!!

I am wondering why it has been that so few boys and men have been pursuing life-long careers in the church. The situation is especially perplexing when considering the Anglicans, where priestly marriage is perfectly acceptable. People in our modern society need devoted men providing necessary religious inspiration and guidance throughout life. Without strong men in religion, our communities and our nations will fray apart and weaken, morally and spiritually.

What's the name of this hymn? something Alleluia?

Abuses aside, the Novus Ordo is often said reverently. I attended many Tridentine low masses -- they were often perfunctory -- priest mumbling the Latin, etc. You no doubt attended High or Solemn High Masses -- but how many of them were celebrated compared to Low Masses? As for the Tridentine mass -- it's not the mass celebrated in the early church or even in the Middle Ages, but ritual that was codified by the Counter Reformation's Council of Trent in response to the protestant Reformation.

Gee frbjoern, things slow at the rectory? You left a snide comment here three months ago re: this video, then came back today to leave another one for a comment that I made SEVEN months ago! You don't know me or my relationship with God or the state of my soul. If you're going to troll the net and judge people solely by comments left, then allow me to do the same with you - and pray that Our Saviour doesn't judge you by yours.

Good thing for your soul that churchlad didn't say that he that he noticed that you didn't once mention the sacred name of our blessed Saviour.
