I wouldn't describe this game as a grind, though I guess it technically is. But, the way the game encourages you to gain experience is through parties, where each battle is supposed to feel like a challenge since you are fighting enemies of a higher level one at a time. It's much too social of a game to be considered a traditional grind, I really think.

When I think of a grind, I think of running around by yourself, killing as much as you can as fast as you can. And this isn't close to that.

I don't think XIV even has an official release date yet, it'll probably be another 6 months or so I'd bet.

I was a bit concerned with all the bad things players were saying about Ninjas. But after watching this I'd sure like to have one myself. :)
