  • Shows clearly why they had to build the dedicated high speed line!

  • the tourist should not have pissed on the line the dirty rat, treat out country with respect and they still be alive

  • Third rail was first laid in the Southern region before the 2nd World War. Backward indeed.

  • @trident3b I think he's right. I don't see why some put -3 to tident3b. It's pretty dangerous and it's a real problem as power to power the Eurostar at high speed is much lower than overhead one. Some people are right, like elscripto. 19th century technology was definitely much better than today !!!

  • Yup, curves and too much local traffic

  • Shades of the ORIGINAL "High-speed" electric train, America's 1931 Bullet train on the Philadelphia & Western RR. Like the Eurostar, they were streamlined and operated off of third rail. The only difference is that P&W used a protective coverboard for it's third rail and paddle-shaped shoes for their EMU equipment that fit under the coverboard. The P&W cars were the first RAILROAD equipment ever tested in a wind tunnel, which was previously used for designing aircraft.

  • 3rd rail was already there in southern england and the government of the day had said they weren't spending any public money on the channel tunnel or links to it. Easiest way was to build a train that could switch between 3rd rail and overhead.

  • crazy... high voltage on the ground, bloody mad,the most stupid thing I have ever seen. This is still the old circuit that used to go to paddington before the St Pancrass line was opened with overhead. Recently a tourist who had drunk too much pissed on the line. Killed him outright. Oh god, we are such a backward country.

  • es linia diesel? el eurostar es electrico no diesel

  • That rather seems to be a strange way to supply electric power to a high-speed-train. Via 3rd rail?

  • :):)
