  • siskel would have loved the fourth one. RIP.

  • Wait. Did he say they discussed the plot earlier? I thought they didn't discuss the films before the show.

  • one of the best action thriller films of all time

  • @ChrisStuckmann Michael Bay and smart audiences don't go together...lol

  • good first film...second one eehhh...third makes us forget the second one (fuckin john woo!) and the fourth is just kick ass

  • @navylaks2 hey its brian de palma not john woo

  • @chimpiki (CONTINUATION)

But who knows. Maybe if I can just take the film as its own entity and disassociate it from the TV show I would enjoy it a lot more. The problem for me though they did almost everything right in the first one with brining M:I to the big screen that it is kind of hard. Well, who knows.

  • @chimpiki

As I said I don't think it was a bad movie, as it was definitely well made and acted, etc. I guess the main thing that irks me is that there seemed to be no reason behind his turning evil (Mind you it's been a long time since I've watched the film). It just seems kind of thrown in there as an unexpected (but out of character) plot twist. Now if they had said the country had somehow screwed him over I maybe I'd have accepted it, or perhaps if it was revealed to be an imposter, etc.

  • @SLPIFan We don't have a point of disagreement here since what I said was primarily in reference to Jim (though I didn't make that articulate). However, I will say that the plot of this film is what does it for me, and so having Jim go through and do what he does is necessary to drive that forward. Maybe the filmmakers thought the name Ethan Hunt was more compelling than Jim Phelps, who knows?

  • @chimpiki

It actually in tone and style was pretty darn close to the TV show. The problem I, and many others, as fans of the TV show had was the treatment to the Jim Phelps hero. Who for the most part was the main hero of the show. They had him turn evil, and to my recollection gave no, let alone a good, reason for it. Other than that I'll say it wasn't a bad movie, I and many others can't get behind it for that reason.
