Locals shivered as cold wave intensified in the region of Amritsar in India's northern state of Punjab on Sunday (January 02).
The snowfall in the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh state had resulted the mercury dipping to 1.0 degree Celsius in the region.
Balbir Singh, a local resident said that his business is also suffering because of the dense fog.
"With the start of the New Year, the cold wave has also tightened its grip over the city. I believe today's temperature is one degree Celsius. You can see that people are warming themselves in front of bonfire. We are facing lot of problems, due to the fog our business is also suffering. We are also facing problem while driving, leave alone the car, none can even ride a cycle in the fog," said Balbir Singh.
The most common problem faced by the people is poor visibility, which in turn has led to many trains running behind schedule.
To keep themselves warm, people preferred sipping hot beverages and sitting around bonfires.
