Well it was very sad to see these lovely units being withdrawn from passenger service. I filmed most 508 action during the last week of service at Purley.
The reason why they are being withdrawn is becuase Southern now run the Redhill to Tonbridge route as part of The Department of Transport's South Central Franchise agreement.
With no work left for the 508s on the Tonbridge to Strood line other units such as class 466s will be used on the branch.
The Class 508s are now destined for warm storage at Stewarts Lane but is rumoured that they could return to passenger service soon. But when?
A final salute from me is this video so rest in peace to the South Eastern Class 508s.
Hahahaha, i love the way the announcement comes before the train has come to a halt! Very fitting tribute! Well done
