He was describing, to me, conversion, not eternal salvation or eternal redemption which was done before the foundation of the world AND at the cross before any of God's elect were ever born. And if that were eternal salvation, then a lot would be included because not all of God's elect, chronologically and geographically, will experience conversion through the hearing of the gospel, but ALL are covered by the blood of Christ and redeemed through His grace and mercy.
I have played golf since I was 12 yrs old. It is NOT boring. Fresh air, green fairways, birds chirping in the trees... boring? Catching a 25 lb Salmon is BORING??
you have to realize, that none of those things matter in the long run. when you die, and the years go by, what good will golfing and fishing have done you? and that is not to say that golfing or fishing is wrong at all! those things are enjoyable, but i think you miss pastor john's point. his point is that the things of the world pale in comparison to Christ and His work. he's not condemning those things. i don't mean to sound condescending at all by the way! God bless :)
A line in of my favorite songs is "..And the things of Earth will grow strangely dim; in the light of his Glory and Grace" In fact, I urge everyone to search the Newboys' edition of that song "turn your eyes apon Jesus'
It's on U Tube and in my fav's.
...and after I was saved ('74) I heard that song and even today, I melt when I hear it, cuz it's so true
1 Peter 4:17 For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 Now If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear? 19 Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator
Repent means to change your mind! GOD knows the natural man is a rebel and enemy of Jesus. But He will accept you back if you want the love of GOD instead of sin. "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9) "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." (1 Cor 1;18)
