The concert included every song off of our CD entitled Revolutions (http://www.cdbaby.com/corporeal ). Floodgate was the second song of the night, as it is the second song on the album.

Crystal raindrops filling this flooding garden maze. The floodgates have been opened and the mist brings forth its haze. The floodgate watchmen watches as water levels rise. A tree in the middle of the garden waves its last good-byes.
Blaze to ash. The raging fire starts to scream. The water rises and an ocean replaces the steam. While staring through a faceless clock, the hour hand will run. A shoreline molds the surface and the watchman's work is done.

Ch: Burn and wash away all that is pulling me down and lift me hire. Trusting your instincts will keep you in trouble. Jump through the wall of fire. Set the trees ablaze and burn whatever to hell you want, but pay the penalty; you can't just swim away.

The beasts and the earth-shakers break away for higher ground and see the tree that's still waving anchored to its garden mound. Gangrene grows between its toes, encircled in light from a broken sky. The only indication that soon the earth will dry.
Molds and shrubs reclaim the land back from the sea. Burned, shredded and smothered to nothing as monsters fight around the tree. The tree shouts, "stop this instant!" The dragon glares its evil eye; it rips the tree in two. The watchman turns away to cry.
Ch
All have lost their way. All are balancing on the rim. Were you all clueless to know that dragons couldn't swim?
As the level falls back and releases its wrath the tree top cries out it's been torn in half. The watchman caries the tree to its mound; its roots re-grow into the ground. The dragon was lost, soulessly shifted. It drowned in the flood, lifeless it drifted. The watchman returns to spend his days at the floodgate above the garden maze

What do we know of the beasts of the water? (they drown) What do we know of the beasts on the land? (they burn) What do we know of the beasts who are flying? (They soon will grow tired of flying around). So, what will happen to us who are swimming? (you'll sink) Can we be saved or are we all doomed? I will be with you to walk through the fire and you shall not be consumed. Your wings will never grow tired, you shall never fall. Lost like a demon, you better stop dreaming listen for the watchmen's call...for the floodgates have been opened.

Lyrics and composition are by Dave VerLee, written in 2002.

  • why do your live videos look like they are made for mobile video?

  • This song has truly amazing musicianship, a balance among the instruments and subtle, yet powerful emotional currents. I feel a tense tranquility, like the calm before the storm, a swelling of power and the destructive wave that follows. I find the music truly inspiring. However, the 'singer's' nasally whine is really very distracting, and I think it takes away more from the song than it adds. I'd love to see this done as just an instrumental or with a different singer.
