Grand Funk Railroad LIVE Concert Atlantic City Aug 2 2008

DON BREWER

Born September 3, 1948 in Flint, Michigan, Don is a founding member of Grand Funk Railroad. Starting his first band at the age of 12 (The Red Devils), Don became a singing drummer in his next band, The Jazzmasters. The years 1965-1967 saw national success with Terry Knight and the Pack and a top forty hit "I Who Have Nothing". He formed Grand Funk Railroad in 1968, with Mark Farner and Mel Schacher, going on to record 12 gold and 10 platinum albums. Besides playing drums, Don also writes and sings with hits "Were An American Band", "Shinin On", "Walk Like a Man", to his credit. He is also singing lead on the hit recording "Some Kinda Wonderful". In the 1980s, Don performed with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band for two tours, the second in 1987 being the largest grossing tour of that decade. Reuniting with Farner and Schacher, Don again toured and recorded with Grand Funk from 1995 through 1998. Now with a new GFR lineup, he is glad to be back on the road and performing as Grand Funk heads out for a 2000-2004 tour.

  • He needs to wake up and mend the break between him and Mark Farner before it's too late. The world needs Grand Funk's music, the REAL DEAL, not his lame cover band,FAUX FUNK.

  • I agree 100%

  • Farner was voted out of Grand Funk by Don and Mel.Don had a pack of lawyers present and gave Mark an ultimatum, stop touring solo or you're out.Twice since then Mark has offered to reunite and tour and each time Brewer said we are better off without you.

  • @Lmcdan1313 I really dont know where you guys are coming from.I have actually met Don and Mel.They begged Mark to come back after their successful Bosnia reunion tour and Mark didnt want to know about it.Only when their 40 year anniversary(years later) was looming did Mark want any part of it.It was too late then.Don and Mel had already had a new singer etc and were a band in themselves.Their number one hit was actually written by Brewer-."Were an American Band".Enough Said.

  • Ahhhhhh, don't sweat it people. We know who the real genius of GFR is, and he isn't in the band anymore. Rumor has it that there's gonna be a name change soon. The fake GFR is changing its name to "SBB" a.k.a, the "sewer brewer band". Two reasons for that is; Brewer said that the "Messenger" guitar of Mark's was a "piece of shit", but he took it from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and since SBB stinks without Mark Farner, there you are. Hey mel, ever find your way out of sewer's ass??

  • If its not the original line up their not GFR! Even if Mark was voted out of the corporation, he should still reap royalties from his copyrighted material. He should go back to court and insure that his material is protected by law. My take on the issue is that Mark can not use the GFR name in any way.

  • y tampoco a mel.

  • es el verdadero baterista rock. no comercial y le sale desde adentro.

talento . virtuosismo y alma de grand funk. Mark farner no serìe el mismo , sino hubiera conocido a don.

  • I saw Grand Funk a few years back in Orlando, Fl at the Harley Davidson event. They were a joke with out Mark Farner. Sounded like a cover band. I will never see them again. Don Brewer and his bitch Mel are two fuckin idiots. After all said and done Mark wrote over ninety percent of the songs. Pretty two faced and sneaky how Don got Mark to sign that corporate agreement, then fucked him out of his share of the bands rights and royalties. They should call themselves Grand Snakes!

  • Ok..let's get this straight...Don did not end it with Mark. Even during reunion tour in 98, Mark had plans of leaving to do his own thing with his own band. Reason? To make more money. Hired players don't make as much as equal partners. GFR Inc. will always be Mark, Don, & Mel.... And playing GFR material, THEY will always get the "Lion's share".

  • Brewer is 60 and still plays like he is 19.AWSOME.NO MARK NO FUNK.

  • ahaha....really Donnie can't remember how good was his mate Markie....anyway all three were a power trio really kicking ass live....those days will never come back but the real history cannot be changed...and GFR were a very good hard rock band...E pluribus still stands the test of time....good memories never worn....

  • Exactly, like furniture with fingers; Brewer said Max Carl was "the best blue-eyed soul singer on the planet"; hardly he can't begin to hit notes that Mark does.
