Although I still can't get the sound right, I thought I'd add this second video, this time playing the Bryan Adams number, "Everything I do".

  • Gleny, keep it up! The recording is not right but you sound just fine!!. Can you tell me what brand flugel is it. that you use?

    I really enjoy your playing!

  • Thank you for your comment. I now have new equipment, but haven't got round to trying a new recording - always too busy! I love my flugel, which is a bit different from most. It's a Selmer "Bundy", designed by Vincent Bach. A friend bought it in USA and I later bought it off him - I'm in England.

  • Excellent phrasing... not everyone can feel as you do. You tone and intonation were excellent as well. I applaud you for having the courage to put yourself up on youtube! Please keep at, and looking forward to hearing you with better sound. For your talent, I would spend the money and upgrade your equip. so we can hear the full impact of your musical ability.

  • Thank you for such a pleasant comment. I keep intending to make another video as I now have new equipment, but time seems to fly by without getting round to organising it!

  • omg, you are so amzing at it, not the best quality recording but if you had the right equipment i bet you would get a recording contract straight away, i play flugel horn and trumpet and would love to play this song, so could you please email me the music please on gemmac_2121@hotmail.co.uk thanks, carry on playing and i wish you the best of luck well done.

  • Hi Glenys,

Great playing; don't ever let anyone discourage you from doing what you love! It's ultimately not about how well you do it, but the joy it brings you.

The distortion happening on the recording is called 'clipping'; the overloading of the recording circuitry behind the mic with too much volume. Horns are loud, so try standing further away from the mic. Also experiment with facing towards or away from the mic (as per this video) to best capture your flugel's sound.

    Cheers,

    Paul : )

  • Thank you for the information. I can really tell you love the flugel, keep it up!

  • Hey Glenys. Another nice video... I also think you could use another webcam to improve the sound. It will sound even better then, but nice playing!

  • sounds great you really play well, coming from a 12 year, 35 year old horn player here. Keep it up, do you play any jazz?
