Procol Harum in Copenhagen, 2001.
Gary Brooker & Matthew Fisher!

Conquistador - 1967

Conquistador your stallion stands
In need of company
And like some angel's haloed brow
You reek of purity
I see your armour-plated breast
Has long since lost its sheen
And in your death mask face
There are no signs which can be seen

And though i hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind
Conquistador a vulture sits
Upon your silver shield
And in your rusty scabbard now
The sand has taken seed
And though your jewel-encrusted blade
Has not been plundered still
The sea has washed across your face
And taken of its fill

And though i hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind
Conquistador there is no time
I must pay my respect
And though i came to jeer at you
I leave now with regret
And as the gloom begins to fall
I see there is no, only all
And though you came with sword held high
You did not conquer, only die

And though i hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind

  • Now that's what I call talent. What a brilliant LIVE performance of a magnificent song. Just as good as the studio recording with no sign of lip-syncing going on there. Love you, Procol Harum.

  • Gary still going strong at 66 Happy B Day

  • Sorry, but I've been fan of the band since the late 60's but I'd have wanted my money back if the whole concert was this crappy.

  • @Smeatfree Sorry, you don't want to think about Steely Dan either .... ( a dildo)

  • @itsmedontyousee And a Led Zepellin wouldn't fly would it... :-)

  • DOES SOMEONE KNOW WHERE THIS CONCERT DVD IS AVAILABLE? THANKS

  • It's amazing after all these years, the man can still crank out that powerful vocal.

  • @kja427 The easy one is conquistador. It means 'conquerer'. It refers to Spanish or Portuguese men who conquered Central and South America. As for 'Procol Harum', it's very bad, and also incorrect, Latin. It roughly means 'of these far off places'. Procul is the correct Latin spelling, meaning 'Far, At, To, or From A Distance'. Harum is the feminine/plural/possessive case (hence the meaning 'Of These').

  • What does the term "Procol Harum" mean? Please let me know. Also, what is a conquistador? I'd like to know that too. Nice tune, by the way.

  • Simply superb!
