Bulgarian Air Force History (one of the oldest air forces in Europe)

The Bulgarian Air Force (Bulgarian: Военновъздушни сили, ВВС) is a branch of the Bulgarian Army, the other two being the Bulgarian Navy and Bulgarian land forces. Its mission is to guard and protect the sovereignty of Bulgarian airspace, to provide aerial support and to assist the Land Forces in case of war. The Bulgarian Air Force is one of the oldest air forces in Europe and the world. In recent times it has been actively taking part in numerous NATO missions and exercises in Europe. The current commanding officer of the Bulgarian Air Force is Lieutenant-General Simeon Simeonov.

Well, none of ours needed to do it as well, they could just abort mission and go home, but they didn't, they stayed and performed their duty cause it was about more than their own survival. If your pilots had to defend their own skies, I think they would do the same. The ramming attacks (we don't call them Kamikaze, we are not Japs) are an act of admirable bravery and honor. Shows how much a person is dedicated to his homeland.

It was a desperate move, yes. But what would you do when you have an aircraft unfit for combat and you see formations of enemy bombers flying towards your cities to bomb your families. It was a heroic move, not many US pilots would do such feats. We sided with the nazis, and then the soviets, every enemy you ever had in 20th century. Does this makes us less human and we should not defend ourselves? You can't blame us for this. We as a nation have the liberty to choose for ourselves.

@zaho87 Liked your post... The only problem I have with it is "not many US pilots would do such feats." How can you make such a comment? after all we were always called on to go fight "over there". We were not fighting over Chicago, Seattle or New York. By the way, how many American pilots do you know?

Was it 1885 cause i don't think so ^^ Our oldest person in the army was 28 years old and we get our freedom 7 years ago...In Balkan War u betread us and in WW1 we smashed ur asses -1917 near Doiran over 330 000 serbian , british and french troops attacks 30 000 bulgarians - the bulgarians didnt have enough bullets so they charged and won;1915-1916 u serbians with ur english and frenchie friends were running like rabbits with the greeks..not enough characters

Bulgaria is a nation of honour! We seem to have forgotten all that!!! Our history is filled with honourable battles and glorious victories against all odds!!! Yet we have been corrupted by traitors who know no honour, no faith, they don't see past their own two feet!!!!! They sold our country to the west and corrupted everyone with false ideals and selfish misconduct!!! WE WANT CHANGE!!! We want to be able to say "PROUD TO BE BULGARIAN" again and again, AND MEAN IT!
