Mid-period D&D wasn't great (part II of III)

@lindybeige no DM would actually run it like that. You would simply give them the non-proficiency penalty. A Cleric, cannot use any non-blunt weapons but that is the only real restriction. If you played a cleric and did, most DM's would allow it, but there would be some consequences from your god for doing so. Your arguments are interesting, and you make some decent points, but a lot of them are not well researched nor take DM discretion into account. You seem to have a very tight view of rules.

@PepperoniMage No, I approve messages that criticise me, when they seem polite enough. My main reason for approval is that I get to see and potentially respond to all comments. Yes, AC is an attempt (which in my opinion does not succeed well) to encompass all manner of defences.

@bud389 You are nuts. D20 blows chunks as a system. Tons of gamers won't touch it with a 10 foot pole, with its rule for everything under the sun. It is overly complicated and bloated. Give me d100 any day of the week.

Rules-wise RuneQuest has ALWAYS been superior to D&D and still is.

Tremendously Expensive PHB and DMG, i think i got both books in 1984 for about $9 a apeice, compare that to the $60 core rulebooks you see in stores today. I dunno how they expect kids to get into the hobby, not if they had parents like mine.

Have you ever tried Hârnmaster? I think you might like it.

@lindybeige I hear you on the inability for certain classes to use certain weapons. Never mind that Tolkien (which AD&D is heavily influenced by) had Wizards wielding swords.

I fucking hate classes in my tabletop. Total fucking garbage. It was why I switched to Gurps of all things.
I also noticed in your video description, you name religion and politics among the things you like about it... First of all, Religion already is in 3.0 - 3.5, and secondly, politics can't be "effectively" inserted into the rules, as it's assumed the player creates his or her own world to set the monsters/players/campaign in, in the first place. 3.5 is not only the definitive tabletop game(since you can do litterally ANYTHING in it), but also the definitive RPG.

@bud389 Religion is touched upon, little more. How is it it the 'definitive' RPG, without using something to define itself? One can in one sense do 'anything' in any RPG, and in another sense one cannot do anything in any RPG. Can a first level human fighter fly, breathe underwater, and always roll a 20 in 3.5? He can if you ignore the system totally.

what was the opening stop motion animation? Your own creation?

@TheWhoaDude Yes, you can see the rest in the appallingly-named "Hilt and Shaft" ("Prax Warrior" is much better).

Actually, in D&D, all classes can use all weapons, just not proficiently :P
But yeah, D&D is ridiculously complicated (yet neither realistic nor balanced)

@dyrestrike In early versions of D&D, classes simply couldn't use certain weapons.
