Band Profile

The Chairman, formed in 1997, has released 7 albums, and received numerous domestic and overseas awards. The Chairman is famed for its particular Taiwanese local rock and roll style and has dominated the Taiwan music industry for years.

Now The Chairman is bringing you its eighth studio album coming in 2010, not only with its inherited style but also with its brand new element, Taiwanese traditional culture, including temple fairs, local religion music, and Taiwanese local opera instruments, again to show its ability to mix the tradition and the newness.

Album Concept

In Taiwan, a temple is the center of people's belief as compared to the church in western world. In addition, a temple can reveal the art forms in one region because the temple are usually built and decorated by well-trained artisans. On certain days such as the birthday of gods, people will hold some spiritual activities or rituals. For example, "Chu Shiun" is a typical activity, which, people believe, performs a function of destroying bad spirits.

Chairman thinks these traditional activities are valuable to Taiwan people so it samples in its album a few of Taiwanese local opera music, which can best represent Taiwanese traditional culture.
