This is a review of my new favorite guitar, the Godin Grand Concert Ambiance nylon-string acoustic/electric, featuring custom electronics by Fishman. The full 20-minute version (which had to be edited to fit within YouTube's 10-minute limit) can be viewed on StringDancer:

  • Amazing guitar, and even more amazing playing! And that is certainly saying a lot considering the caliber of your weapon of choice, the Godin Grand Concert Ambiance.

  • @zrtaylor23 - Very kind of you, thanks. :-)

  • How does the volume response compare with an acoustic instrument?

I'm a classical player, looking for a midi classical instrument, but don't like the lack of sensitivity in the other Godins, (with all due respect, as they are great instruments in there own right).

  • @LeeEisenstein - Well, I don't think we ever perceive the response of an acoustic-electric to be identical with a purely acoustic instrument. I know I don't. But it boils down to reasonable tradeoffs for the purpose of pleasing tone and controllable amplified volumes.

One effect I generally avoid is compression. In theory, the tightening of the dynamic range of a guitar would seem useful, but I find compression, even in modest doses, unnatural and disconcerting.

  • @ DuendeHr: The Ambiance has a standard classic 2" nut, and the bridge spacing is proportional. Plenty of real estate for your technique.

  • Glad you like the Ambiance, Pedro. I'm ramping up to go do a gig with mine tonight. The best nylon-string guitar for the stage ever made, IMHO. Also kicks butt in the studio -- plug and play. Cheers!

  • I am impatiently waiting for my grand ambience to arrive at our local music store in edmonton alberta canada. You would think these things being made in canada that they would be readily available. But they are actually really hard to find, I had to special order mine and that was over 2 months ago. I could drive to quebec where they are made faster. So this is a little disappointing. So Godin if you are watching how about sharing these guitars with canadians.

  • Should have the htt... thing in front of the url. It's White Eisenstein at Honolulu Hale.

  • For anyone interested in nylon string, midi capable guitar, here's a concert video of me, playing my midi capable Rameriz.

  • Hi there again... I have a question regarding our Godin Guitars. I hope you can help. First it seamed from the first day that the 2 treble strings b & e, don't have the tension expected. Like if I play a bit more stronger it snaps. And for a normal classical that's not normal... The only string that seams to have the right tension it's the G string. So, Should I adjust the trust Rod, get the saddle higher or this is a question of strings? I use Hight tension. THNKS a Lot!!!

  • This guy likes puppies!.... I hope to get a guitar without those flaws... Let's hope. Thanks for review
