Once twenty years are worked, everyone receives the same amount. But men typically work for more years and have a higher participation rate in the full-time labor force. But I'm talking about payout and payin. Women live five years longer than men, and women, on average, pay in about 80% (gender wage gap) of the male contribution.

The amount that a person gets at retirement is based on the years they have worked and how much they put into the Soc Sec system. I don't know about the rest of what you spoke of-you could absolutely be right about the census data- For example-My brother and I are both on disability and mine is $300 less than his-not because the govt. is out to get me-because I did not pay in as much as he did.

Women also work less outside of the house. Check the US Census data on income to see that there are significantly fewer women in all income categories. This means that there are more women that are not in the work force and also work fewer years. Why do they receive the same Social Security benefit for fewer years of work?

Apparently, Chelsea didn't read the U.S Department of Labor's 2009 report on the topic. Women are paid less for less work at women on average work fewer hours/week and fewer years overall. And overall, women aren't doing the same jobs that men do. Survey any outdoor, dangerous or dirty work. All of the workers doing hard manual labor are men.

She quotes that 77cents, etc figure and then states that it is equal pay for equal work. Here is the problem. The stats she quotes AREN'T equal pay for equal work.

The problem is they took ALL women and ALL men who work full time , full year and compared them. There is also a huge problem in the definition of FULL YEAR, according to the department of labour stats that she quotes, FULL YEAR is defined as 6 Months + 1 day of an average of 30+ hours per week of work.
