La grande barrière de corail (en anglais : Great barrier reef) est le plus grand récif corallien du monde. Il est situé au large du Queensland, en Australie.

Il s'étend sur 2 600 kilomètres, de Bundaberg à la pointe du Cap York. D'une superficie de 350 000 km², il peut être vu de l'espace. À titre de comparaison, l'Allemagne a une superficie de 357 000 km². La Grande barrière de corail compte plus de 2 000 îles et près de 3 000 récifs de toutes sortes. On peut en apercevoir près des côtes, mais les plus spectaculaires se trouvent à quelque 50 km du large. The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest reef system composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,600 kilometres (1,600 mi) over an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres (133,000 sq mi). The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in north-east Australia.

The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from outer space and is the world's biggest single structure made by living organisms. This reef structure is composed of and built by billions of tiny organisms, known as coral polyps. This reef supports a wide diversity of life, and was selected as a World Heritage Site in 1981. CNN labeled it one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The Queensland National Trust named it a state icon of Queensland.

Wielka Rafa Koralowa albo Wielka Rafa Barierowa (ang. Great Barrier Reef) -- największa na świecie rafa koralowa, położona u wybrzeży Australii. Jest to największa na Ziemi pojedyncza struktura wytworzona przez organizmy żywe, widoczna nawet z kosmosu (jako biała smuga na tle błękitnego oceanu).

To piękne miejsce pełne różnych gatunków ryb, mięczaków oraz roślin. Oprócz około 1500 gatunków ryb, na rafie żyje 5000 gatunków mięczaków, oraz 400 gatunków koralowców i 500 gatunków wodorostów. Większe wyspy pokryte są gęstą roślinnością tropikalną. Wielka Rafa Koralowa jest jedną z większych atrakcji turystycznych Australii.

Od 26 października 1981 roku, jako park morski (Great Barrier Reef Marine Park), objęta ochroną, wpisana na Listę Światowego Dziedzictwa Kulturalnego i Przyrodniczego UNESCO. Powierzchnia parku, chronionego przez UNESCO, wynosi 346 000 km². (Morze Koralowe, Wielka Rafa Koralowa oraz lasy tropikalne Queensland).
