  • It's a good idea to cover the compost heap at the end of the season, and using something waterproof will stop the nutrients leaching out, and the core is more likely to break down if it is not wet. I worry a little bit about toxins being released if you use synthetic carpet.

  • Very informative video. Your compost heap is very impressive.  I started my compost heap almost a year ago. It is progressing rather slowly so I recently moved it to a wooden, more aerated structure but I have covered it with carpet. Do you recommend covering the heap or leaving it open?
