As for grammatical errors, that's because the text is in Church Slavonic. Many words in Church Slavonic mean completely different things in Modern Russian. Spelling errors where? Transliterations can be very different. Take Rachmaninoff, there are about 10 different versions of his name in Latin characters. As for pronunciation errors, that could be the fault of the choir.

@fraublucher2 I find that most of the distortion comes from the fact that this is a home video with an open camera mic, rather than a patch in to the auditorium's sound board.

@mmuussiiccooppaattaa According to the Rose Ensemble, the reason this piece is included in their Early American repertoire is because it was originally composed by a Minnesotan homesteader of Russian descent in the 19th century. Maybe their history is wrong, but that's what I saw on PBS.

This is sort of a peculiar way of performing this song. It works so much better with a chamber ensemble, as it was intended. Taking the solo lines and having a whole section sing them distorts the piece in my opinion.

i'm from russia as well, and speak fluent russian: i'm taken as a native speaker here and overseas. this arrangement has many grammatical/spelling/pronuncia
tion errors. of course, they could be there to make musical sense, but the russian is very sketchy, to say the least. -
the composer does not speak fluent russian. most of the tenses in the song are wrong. i know this because our choir director ordered the piece and we are performing it for a festival. a beautiful piece nevertheless, and i personally like this interpretation far more than rose ensemble's. i will post a video response of our choir performing it for comparison.

if you read in the title, it does say "singing Sergei Khvoshchinsky's arrangment..."

Excellent performing, nevertheless, this is not the Rachmaninov Vespers' Bogoroditse devo at all.
this is reaaaaly good, I still like the rose ensemble's better...

I was in this very ensemble, and I just love the musical sound coming from it, especially from this piece. I remember the story in which the conductor of the Augsburg Choir listened to this piece on the radio in the car and had to pull over once because it was so beautiful to him. I agree with him on this, because there are moments in the piece when it takes my breath away. Hats off to you, Sergei Khvoshchinsky. :)
