Harekrishnas don't eat for shit sakes at all, only as a service to the Lord. Onions and garlic are bad for consciousness, they make one angry and stupid. Our goal - Love - is very subtle. It is a science. For bhakti yoga, strong intelligence - will and memory are important.

From what I've been reading up on it, it seems that since it is pungent to the senses, like super strong, HKs do not eat it. However, I am not a HK so I'm probably not the best person to answer it. I do like alot of stuff about HK and are studying up on alot of things recently. It feels great.
